San Diego Girl Scouts is working on a pilot program that focuses on regions, the level of organiztion between service units and council. We are part of the Pacifica Region which includes service units from Point Loma, Serra Mesa, Clairemont, Park Hills, University City, La Jolla and Tierrasanta. This pilot program will increase communications and support between council and service units as well as the service units themselves. This additional level of support will include several new regional positions. Below is a letter received that explains the new pilot program.
Letter from Council regarding the new focus on regions:
Welcome to the beginning of the 100th year of Girl Scouts! Since November of 2010, your service unit manager has been working with a team of staff and volunteers to create a regional structure in addition to the service units that currently exist. We are piloting this structure in your area, known as the Pacifica region. Included are the service units of Point Loma, Serra Mesa, Clairemont, Park Hills, University City, Mission Trails, La Jolla, and Tierrasanta.
If you're attending Leading the Way, you'll hear a bit more about it, but here's a quick snap shot: Based on input from pilot managers, a volunteer task group was formed and worked to develop job descriptions for a regional team. These job descriptions are for roles which would be helpful to the service units and the region. For example, descriptions were created for Individual Girl Member (IGM) Liaison, Travel Pathway Coordinator, and Highest Awards Support Liaison, just to name a few. You may recall Maxine Peoples, long time volunteer and chair for the regional action team, came out to visit your service unit to talk, observe, and get ideas for regional roles.
The next steps will be to fill the positions and eventually branch out to other regions - all while keeping the service units intact, but offering this additional level of support.
It's anticipated you'll have some questions, so there's going to be a meeting in September for all teams to come together for a little Q & A. More details on that later.
Thank you for your time and continued commitment to Girl Scouts!
